On the Ball …. With Mr P

Physical Education Term 4

Well done to all the students who participated in the Sorrento Tennis Club Hot Shots tournament on Friday, December 4. We had a number of new players and all contributed well. It was pleasing to see some interschool representation for our hard working students in 2020. We look forward to further tennis representation in the coming years.

Thanks to all the parents who assisted in managing and supervising teams and Alma Halilovic for washing the shirts.

You may have seen some students bouncing and hitting of late. Thanks to funding acquired in the ‘Sporting Schools Plus’ initiative, Landsdale Primary School was able to purchase a fixture table-tennis table, a trampoline, further sports equipment and in-school lesson delivery along with some other resources to promote Physical Literacy around the school.

What is Physical Literacy?

Physical literacy involves holistic lifelong learning through movement and physical activity. It delivers physical, psychological, social and cognitive health and wellbeing benefits. The Sport Australia Position Statement on Physical Literacy outlines our commitment to creating a heathier generation of more active Australians.

The Australian Physical Literacy Framework activates this commitment through the establishment of a common language to support all Australians develop their physical literacy, at every stage of life.

Physical literacy gives you:

  • physical skills and fitness
  • the attitudes and emotions that motivate you to be active
  • the knowledge and understanding of how, why and when you move
  • the social skills to be active with others.

Happy holidays!
Mr P

Hi everybody, welcome back to term 4.

As the weather is warming up please make sure your child is wearing a hat and appropriate footwear when attending Physical Education lessons. A water bottle now is recommended also! If your child cannot participate in Phys Ed lessons due to injury or illness, a verbal or written message from you needs to be communicated to your child’s teacher or myself.

Runners Club

Congratulations to Marko J and Elizabeth DM on reaching 100 laps (25kms) for Runners Club. These students are in years 1 and PP respectively, so they should have many leaps by the time they graduate! Don’t forget Runners Club is still on from 8.10–8.30am every Monday morning.

2020 Primary Track & Field ‘Champion of Champions’ Carnival

Congratulations to all the students that competed in last Friday night’s 2020 Primary Track & Field Carnival. To compete at such a good level with short notice was a credit to all students involved. I was pleased our faction winners from each event were able to compete at higher level in 2020.

Faction Athletics Carnival

Congratulations to all the students who participated in the Faction Athletics Carnival last Thursday.

All students tried very hard with the events they participated in and should be very proud of their efforts. Thanks very much to all staff and parents for supporting the children throughout the day – it was great to see.

Many thanks to everybody who assisted on the day and leading up to the event. Thanks to the staff of Landsdale Primary School for their work in placing students in events. The day could not go ahead without all the assistance from volunteers and last minute helpers, including the canteen staff and all their hard work and the P & C. Thanks also to Timing Gates WA, all prac and Ashdale Secondary College students. Well done everybody!

Well done to Cassia for again being deserved winners of the sportsmanship award. This faction has deserved to win the award this year, not just on Faction Carnival Day but throughout training and PE lessons and thanks to my ‘sportsmanship spies’ throughout the day for taking careful notice of terrific sportsmanship. In saying that though, all factions should be very proud of their behaviour and sportsmanship in this year’s sports carnival. In fact it was very pleasing to hear an external helper comment on just how well the students were behaved. I noticed everybody was very focussed and knuckled down to the tasks at hand. Superb effort Landsdale!

Well done Grevillea for winning the championship trophy – it was well deserved and a great team effort.
