22 February 2024
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Carers,
I would first like to thank all our families for your support and understanding during the unprecedented heatwave. It has been a challenging landscape for us all but especially for our students. I’m hoping we have seen the last of the extreme temperatures!
At the beginning of the year I think it is really important to highlight the importance of the strong relationship needed between home and school.
As a parent, you know your child better than anyone else does. Your child’s teacher/s also want to get to know your child as well as possible to be able to support them.
When there is a strong and respectful relationship with you and your child/children’s teacher/s, you’re in a good position to give them information to help your child get the most out of education. You and your child’s teachers can work together to support your child’s learning and wellbeing.
When everybody is working together in the best interests of your child/children some researched benefits of include:
- regular school attendance
- positive school results
- a positive attitude towards school
- good social and relationship skills
- a sense of wellbeing
- positive mental health benefits
We look forward to the productive relationships built through this term and into the rest of the year.

LANDSDALE DIGITAL LIBRARY (Wheelers eBooks & Audiobooks)
Our school is committed to providing students with unique learning opportunities, which is why we are pleased to introduce ePlatform, a digital library for students that provides free access to eBooks and Audiobooks.
The benefits of ePlatform are many. With ePlatform, your student has 24/7 access to eBooks and Audiobooks for free. This is a wonderful extension of our physical school library and allows titles to be checked out at home, over the weekend or during school breaks without worrying about losing or accruing late fees because they automatically return at the end of the loan period. Students of all ages can benefit from ePlatform's reading and comprehension tools. A service like this can benefit struggling or reluctant readers, learning-challenged students, second-language learners as well as gifted readers.
- Unique reader customisation with the Settings wizard, across all devices
- Introduces students to books above their reading level
- Helps busy kids find time to read
- Professionally curated collection with age restrictions set by school staff
- Increases vocabulary and improves pronunciation and comprehension
- User-friendly for all types of readers and listeners (eg: reluctant, dyslexic)
How does it work? Ensure your reader has the ePlatform app which can be downloaded for free from the Apple Store, Google Play Store or visit landsdaleps.wheelers.co to begin. Students have their own unique log-in to access the platform. These green log-in strips were distributed to classroom teachers in Week 3. Please contact us directly should your child have any trouble logging in or accessing ePlatform.

A Note from the School Health Nurse (Primary School)
Welcome to the new school year. My name is Joanne Duncan, and I am the School Health Nurse who visits your school.
School Health Nurses work in schools to promote healthy development and wellbeing so students may reach their full potential. A major part of my work is focused on early intervention and the School Entry Health Assessment program. Additionally, the nurse can be contacted at any time throughout primary school if you have concerns about your child’s health, development or wellbeing.
School Health Nurses serve as a health contact point for children and their families, providing information, assessment, health counselling and referral. They also work in partnership with schools to support teachers in health-related curriculum and can assist in the development of health care plans for students with complex and chronic health needs.
The services provided are free and confidential.
My workdays are Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs.

A Message from the School Health Nurse (For Kindy & PP Children)
School Entry Health Assessment
All children in Western Australia are eligible for a School Entry Health Assessment when they are of school entry age. The School Entry Health Assessment is provided by the local School Health Nurse. It is an excellent opportunity to look at the health and development of your child at the beginning of school life.
The assessments are simple, non-invasive, quick and easy. They screen for problems which are best addressed, if picked up and treated early. The assessments include:
- Growth (including weight, height and Body Mass Index).
Your child’s results will be sent home after their health check has been completed. Results are always treated confidentially.
Please note, if the assessment results for your child suggest there may be a concern, the School Health Nurse will contact you to discuss.
School Entry Health Assessment forms are currently being distributed for parents to complete. Please complete and sign the back page of the form before you return it.
Please return the form to the class teacher as soon as possible.
Kindy assessments start in Feb and will continue until December.
I look forward to working with you and your family.
If you have a concern about your child’s health, development or wellbeing please contact me on Ph:0404 823 686 Email: email@example.com
